Mine to Medal

Mine To Medal exhibition at the British Museum told the story of the production of the medals for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games: from the mining of the metal by Rio Tinto; to the creation of the designs by David Watkins and Lin Cheung; and production by the Royal Mint.

Examples of the victory medals were shown here publicly for the first time – capturing the imagination of visitors and making both Mine to Medal and the design process exhibit high points of the display.

Curated by the British Museum’s Keeper of Coins and Medals, visitors could also discover more about the crucial role Britain played in the creation of the modern Olympics and Paralympics, and the historical context of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games medals.
